Open Windows

from Seeds by Yvonne Rogers

/

lyrics

I'd like to move the way the wind blows
I’d like to travel how the water flows
Carried by the current for a while
And when I land

I’d like to rest the way the stones do
To lie forever taking in the view
Never wishing I were somewhere else
Yet here I am

Like a bee that’s trapped inside
Against the glass her wings collide
A wall she cannot comprehend
Against which she cannot contend
But in the end

She found her peace upon the window sill
She found it in the act of sitting still
And when she found the strength to try again
She flew outside
Through an open window

And so I see the way it could be
And through the glass I see a better me
But growing up is harder than it seems
So many dreams

They turn around in cycles in my mind
A knot of expectations intertwined
But when I found that I’m already whole
I let them go

I learned move the way the wind blows
And now I travel how the water flows
Carried by the current for a while
I found my way

I learned to rest the way the stones do
To lie forever taking in the view
Never wishing I were somewhere else
I learned to fly
Through an open window
